EMDAR Console

The EMDAR console allows the tactical team to analyse and manage data from the vessel's EM detection arrays, which provides data to identify and locate other vessels in surrounding space.

The console is made up of two panels. One provides displays sensor data, while the other allows users to manage the interpretation of that data (in the form of identifying 'contacts').

Component Panels

The console's component panels are:

EMDAR Waterfall Module

Typical EMDAR waterfall console layout with four modules. Note the blue target lines displayed on the port and aft modules. The EMDAR waterfall module presents EMDAR detections on a distinctive visualisation that provides historical context and allows pattern analysis to help identify possible contacts.

Waterfall Module Configuration

Configuration settings for each EMDAR waterfall module are stored as applet data in JSON format.

Parameters

VESSEL ID: This is the UID of the vessel operating the underlying EMDAR system

ARRAY: This is the operating direction relative to the ship of this instance.

Options are:

  • fwd
  • aft
  • stbd
  • port

ORIENT: This is the orientation group (see below) that this instance belongs to.

Options are:

Contact Board Module Configuration

Configuration

Script Path: /view/nav/contacts/contactBoard.js

Function: dispConBoard(instance)

Display Modes

The contact board has two main display modes:

Active Mode (Mode 0)

This mode allows an operator to add and manage contacts. Typically there is only one active contact board.

TL-EMD02 Panel

This panel works in conjunction with TL-EMD01. It is dominated by the Contact Board module (in active mode), which allows users to add and manage EMDAR contacts.

TL-EMD01 Panel

This panel works in conjunction with TL-EMD02. It displays data from the vessel's broadband EMDAR arrays.

First Look: Live Tactical Exercise

Here's a first look at a live tactical exercise, giving a preview of what it will be like on Endeavour's bridge. The exercise assessment provides a series of snapshots of key moments during a Tactical Operating Environment exercise held in an 'active' simulator, including the data the trainees saw and what they were thinking when they made their decisions.

Contact Board Module

The contact board module provides a visual reference for managing EMDAR contacts. It is linked to other EMDAR modules via intergrid, which allows targets identified on waterfall displays to be directly created as contacts.

Tactical Modules

There is a range of specialist modules designed for tactical operations.

EMDAR

EMDAR modules display sensor information that allows the detection and tracking of TSMOs operating around the vessel.

EMDAR Narrowband Sim

This is a stub for the EMDAR narrowband simulation module
