Stellar Cartography

Stellar cartography involes the identification of star systems and the mapping of their location so that vessels can naviagte to them.

This includes the identification of Atsronomical Objects (AOs) such as planets within the star system so that vessels can safely navigate within the star system once they reach it.

Initial cartographic deatils are obtained using deep space observatories. While this can provide some data about the nature of AOs within a star system, more detail – such as whether they support life – requires orbital observation by a vessel.

Navigable Classification System

Star systems containing exoplanets are identified from Earth-based deep space observatories.

To keep track of all these exploration targets, a classification system designed specifically for deep space navigation has been developed.
