Bridge Simulator

Installation of a simulation room is underway. When completed, the room will allow more intensive training and simulation exercises than is possible with the current ‘table-top’ approach, as well as the opportunity to try out different physical console configurations and layouts.

The simulation room will approximate a bridge layout incorporating up to five stations, starting with helm, tactical, operations and command, with a science station to be added later. All stations are configurable to any requirement, so the room can be used for other training or simulation scenarios.

The design incorporates a modular, vertical-mounted design for consoles that allows up to three panels at different ergonomic positions. This design is intended for stand-up operation but is height adjustable and can be operated seated if necessary. The design is also highly portable, allowing easy experimentation with different room layouts and transport to other locations as needed.

The room will also include a horizontal-mount design that will be trialled for the helm, mounted on an electrically height-adjustable pedestal so that it can be used seated or standing.

Modular wall-to-ceiling acoustic panels will provide environmental consistency regardless of where the simulation room is installed. The panels will mask distracting physical characteristics of the host room including unnecessary doors, windows or glass panels.

Given the highly-flexible, modular design there are virtually no limits to the layouts that can be supported, so make your suggestions known!

It looks like a stack of three panels is available for torpedo operations - that doesn't seem nearly enough to me?

It wouldn't be for full ship operations - for example you'd expect to see at least one panel for firing solutions and one for weapons direction. For training purposes it's possible to reduce the number of simultaneous firing solutions/torps in flight that can be handled concurrently, so that ytou can combne both functions onto one panel.

The sim room isn't intended to be a full-size bridge simulator (yet), but to replicate key system functionality.

The 3 helm panels at the bottom are the horizontal mount (sitting) console?

Yes, that's right
